La corporation des services en éducation de l'Ontario Ontario's School Boards Working Together to Save Taxpayers' Dollars |

The School Energy CoalitionMay, 2007 The School Energy Coalition (SEC) is an initiative jointly sponsored by the Council of Directors of Education (CODE), the Council of School Business Officials (COSBO), the Ontario Association of School Business Officials (OASBO) and the four School Boards’ Associations, administered by OESC. The SEC is registered as the official intervener at the Ontario Energy Board on behalf of all 72 District School Boards in Ontario. The intervention role aims to protect the financial interests of School Boards when natural gas and electricity utilities apply for increases in distribution rates for their energy sources. The SEC has been involved in this work since 2002. All Boards pay an annual fee of 10 cents per student to the SEC. Very conservatively, Boards have saved $15.50 per student between 2002 and 2007 as a result of the SEC’s work and we expect that intervention will save Boards even greater amounts in the next 3 years. These dollars “saved” are available to Boards for use in other areas of priority. SEC Status Updates
